Free Learning Online

More and more free courses, documentaries and reading materials are being offered online, and for free! This is great for those of us who are housebound and not independently wealthy, but still want to keep our minds open and growing…

When Brain Fog is an issue, learning at our own pace is possible with some courses, but I haven’t explored them in any detail to see how many of the following ones can be taken at your own speed, or if schedules need to be maintained.

I would love to hear about your favorite resources, and especially those that will help prepare us for the challenges we are facing in this changing world (ie developing community, growing food, respecting resources, citizen empowerment, etc). Please leave your suggestions in the comments and I will update this post into a page at some point in the future, (one that stays at the top of this site) and include them there.

There’s already something for everyone here!

Enjoy!

(with apologies for the crappy formatting… I don’t “speak” code and all my efforts to change the spacing revert to this, no matter what I do or how)

Some of these I have checked out, but many were recommended by others.

  1. You have to have a local library affiliated with this I think. http://www.universalclass.com/myinterests/aboutus.htm

    • Thanks Heather!
I do remember now that some library systems also have e-book loans.
I think it requires downloading some software and registering with a library and then borrowing books the same way as if they were hard copies?

  2. 3. Thanks for this awesome list Linda! I re-shared it on my Facebook page. Hugs

    • Thanks Jessie!

    • Duh, here’s my FB page that I shared it on. https://www.facebook.com/DivinelyDifferentlyAbled

Many of us are on house arrest basically, so this is very useful. Thanks again!
Ps. I found you because of the MCS FB group I just joined.

      • This list was created largely because of the house arrest we are under, for crimes we did not commit…

FB is (somewhat sadly) great for us too… Their algorythms and spyware are a p.i.t.a., but I couldn’t have survived without fb these past several years. I have cut back a great deal in using it as a personal life substitute, but still share a lot of environmental health info on the public page (it’s in the sidebar here under “social media”).

I prefer learning to entertainment, so I guess this list was also an extension of that, and a place to “park” resources I want to explore as I heal.

I still need some brain exercises to retrain parts that aren’t functioning properly. Not talking about the amygdala or limbic system retraining, but basic brain skills, like what people do after strokes and brain injuries… For decision making and information processing… learning new things and structuring things is very difficult for me (and my language skills suck tonight, the heat and humidity have made the air more toxic). I don’t have access to a brain injury group, I think they might be useful if I could work with someone…

        So, if anyone has ideas…

  4. Reblogged this on Divinely Differently Abled and commented:
Sorry I haven’t been writing too much myself lately, but wanted to share this Free Learning toolkit with you from Linda’s blog. Very cool. Check it out! 🙂

  5. I really have the dumb tonight. Brain fog can be a bi***. I also re-blogged it here: http://divinelydifferentlyabled.wordpress.com/. I now have a headache, and am choosing to not try and use my brain the rest of this lovely evening. Gnite!

    • I have more dumb than recent normal tonight too… the heat and humidity are causing major chemical offgassing everywhere…

      • Hmmm, I wonder if that’s affecting me also…wouldn’t doubt it, but so many things affect me it’s always hard to tell what’s what.

        • I have managed to eliminate problem materials and control my environment much more than most people, so I can usually tell, although it gets much harder if not impossible when the chemicals or whatever are from far away. I can be wiped out without knowing what caused it – for all I know it could have come from hundreds of miles away! But for most things on a daily basis, I do know. I don’t allow many new things into my home, and most need to be aired out and washed before coming in.

Here’s a good video about how air and pollutants can cross the ocean http://video.ft.com/v/2506012869001/California-wrestles-with-pollution-from-Asia
