MCS/ES Awareness Day Projects: Request for Submissions

Marie Leblanc, an artist from Winnipeg who is living with MCS/ES herself, is compiling information and statements to put into an MCS awareness project. There are two  ideas  to contribute to.

The easier one is to share  shorter personal statements about your life with MCS/ES and related environmentally linked health conditions,  which will be projected onto walls in a way similar to the photo below.

The other project involves answering 6 questions:

When a Friend’s Life Is Being Threatened

Guest Post

A few of us in the MCS community have been burning the proverbial candle at both ends and in the middle, trying to generate public awareness and interest to persuade the NS housing authority to reconsider their 3 year battle to evict our good friend Wendy, despite no accessible alternatives being available.

Their unwillingness to understand and accommodate her disability and her medical team’s recommendations… well, it’s something a lot of us have faced and are facing.

Wanted: Whack-A-Toxic Game Maker

Some of us find online computer games to be a good way to keep our brains from atrophying when we are disabled by all the toxic chemicals allowed to be used in everyday products and materials.

Here’s a game idea that we’d like developed:

whackatoxic

It would have to have an adjustable, variable speed (some of our brains are very slow), as well as an on-off switch for sounds (some of us are also sound “sensitive” when our CNS has been fried from exposures).

The products that pop up can be virtually all regular laundry, cleaning, and personal care products, pesticides, new clothing, shoes, furniture, new electronics, most plastics, in fact, almost anything new. Toxic, health-harming petrochemicals are everywhere now!

The game could be turned into an educational tool too (instead of just a therapeutic tool) by including hyperlinks that inform what the known and suspected to-be-harmful and still-questionable chemicals are in each product, and what health effects they can cause! Scoring could be based on whacking (eliminating) the most toxic products first!

Can someone please make us this game?

In the meantime, here’s an existing way to be active in learning and changing the toxic world we currently live in to a safer one:

When They Poisoned the Pests, I Didn’t Care

When they poisoned the pests,

I didn’t care, because I wasn’t a pest…

When they poisoned the frogs,

I didn’t care, because I was not a frog…

When they poisoned the birds,

I didn’t care, because I wasn’t a bird…

When they poisoned the air,

I didn’t care, because it was on the other side of the planet…

When they poisoned the ocean,

I didn’t care, because I wasn’t a fish…

When they poisoned the lands,

I didn’t care, because it wasn’t near my land…

When they poisoned the people,

I didn’t care, because it wasn’t anyone in my family…

(besides, those people with MCS/ES were acting all crazy, wanting me to change my laundry products, stop using fragrances, and get rid of my wi-fi, among other things)

Can You Imagine A World Where…

imagine a world

Can you imagine a world where it’s unacceptable to profit from polluting people and the environment we all depend on for life?

Someone imagined it was ok to pollute for profit, it wasn’t always happening or acceptable.

What if it’s possible to live good lives while looking after the planet and each other?

For things to change, we have to imagine something different first.

Then, if we can imagine it, we can work together to make it happen!
